A Digital Look at America's Presidential Election
We discussed the 45th Presidential Election of the United States between Donald J. Trump and Hillary Clinton in terms of digital marketing strategies.
The United States was at the polls yesterday. Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton were in competition on social media as well as in the public squares, with the campaigns they created and the content they created. We took this competition under the microscope and examined it more closely.
| Candidates |
Facebook Page Likes |
Number of Twitter Followers | Number of Instagram Followers | Number of Youtube Subscribers |
| Donald J. Trump | 12.692.875 | 13.3 Million | 3 Million | 72.723 |
| Hillary Clinton | 8.561.989 | 10.5 Million | 3.2 Million | 134.687 |
While Donald Trump wanted to keep the earned media in his power during the election with the content he created, Clinton tried to influence the American people, especially with the sponsored posts she created on Facebook.
Although Clinton, who wanted to keep the votes and returns higher, especially through direct mail, achieved a conversion rate of nearly 8 times compared to Trump; Trump's simple and harsh rhetoric aroused serious repercussions on social media.
While Republican Candidate Donald J Trump used the slogan "Make America Great Again" during the election process, Hillary Clinton campaigned with "Stronger Together".
While Donald Trump invested 14.2 Million Dollars (45.8 Million TRY) for digital marketing activities during this election period, Hillary Clinton spent 19.3 Million Dollars (62.3 Million TRY) in total.
We have left behind another election season with the budgets spent, the competition and the content created. During an election period, we saw the importance of digital marketing and how decisive the values it adds are.
